TEST RESULTS: HYBRIDS - 2005

Almost every manufacturer is presently making Hybrids, mostly to take the place of long irons, and, or, short fairway woods.

The Hybrid Test results were as follows and each club listed received Rankmark’s "Best of the Best" Award. For additional information, click on the manufacturer's logo to access their website.

Innovex System RLS
Combining the accuracy and spin rate of your irons and the trajectory and distance of fairway woods, System RLS Hybrids from Innovex offer the perfect replacement for those hard to hit long irons. Expand your ability to once again attack and hold your targets from longer distances. Internal weight distribution increases stability by reducing twisting on off center hits to help improve accuracy.

System RLS

Nickent Genex 3DX
The 3DX name derives from a proprietary 3-dimensional weighting system which strategically places weight lower, deeper and towards the heel and the toe. Each 3DX is fine-tuned to provide optimal launch angle and trajectory for its specific loft. This allows a ball flight that is very penetrating at all trajectories, while maintaining the height and spin needed to hold greens on approach shots.

Genex 3DX

Nicklaus IronMax HiMax
Serve as replacements to traditional long irons. Delivering long iron distance with the high launch angle and spin of a fairway wood. The design combines iron playability with the forgiveness of a fairway wood. Provide a visual top-line to aid golfers with their alignmentand. The multi-thickness face features a thicker elliptical center section for added ball speed on impact and improved distance.

HiMax

Sonartec MD
Designed to give the confidence and control that has never been experienced with long irons. The versatility of the MD, allows you to drive the ball with a penetrating ball flight off the tee, yet land softly on the green from clean fairway lies and on long par 3's.

MD

TaylorMade Rescue Mid
Created to be easier to use than a long-iron while delivering better distance. Key to the Rescue Mid's performance is the it unites a moment of inertia (higher than a long-iron) with a lower, deeper center of gravity. These factors allow the Rescue Mid to combine maximum forgiveness on miss-hits with a high launch angle and spin, producing high, long shots that stop quickly.

Rescue Mid

Titleist 503.H
Designed to provide serious golfers with a long game yardage and trajectory solution. The innovative design and construction provides a more manageable trajectory versus a high loft fairway for higher ball speed players and a more playable trajectory versus a long iron for low launch and slower ball speed players. The 503.H launches lower and spins less than a comparable loft fairway metal for better shot and trajectory control.

Adams IDEA i-Woods
Part iron and part wood, the IDEA i-Woods combine fairway wood distance with the control and accuracy of an iron. They're longer and easier to hit than traditional long irons and an incredible 27% more forgiving.

Ben Hogan Edge CFT
Make it easy to play long clubs instead of high lofted fairway woods and hard to hit long irons. The compression Forged Titanium face and stainless steel body increase forgiveness and playability. The longer club length than typical long irons for added distance. A shorter club length than the typical fairway woods for increased control. The trailing edge sole relief provides added playability from all types of lies.

Edge CFT

Perfect Club
Hits very high, very long shots that settle softly-even from the nastiest of lies. The Perfect Club is designed to force you into your best, most athletic set up posture. It's shorter length and unique weighting also makes The Perfect Club perfect for tough, greenside chips.

Perfect Club

Ping G2
Has a crescent moon graphic on the crown that serves as an alignment aid. Combined with the eye-pleasing shape of the clubhead, these metal woods instill confidence over the ball on even the most challenging shots.

G2

Vulcan Backfire
Features an all new deep cavity hybrid design that allows mass to be strategically positioned in every club head throughout the set. This creates a low and deep center of gravity, and a high moment of inertia. The Hollow Cavity / Wide Sole Design allows maximum forgiveness with progressive weighting - low and back on the longer irons, front and center on shorter irons - resulting in higher, straighter shots.

Backfire

Callaway Big Bertha Heavenwood
With the Big Bertha Heavenwood Hybrids you get the performance of a long iron and the forgiveness of a fairway wood. They will become your go-to clubs for confidence, consistency and playability anywhere on the course.

Heavenwood

Cleveland HALO
Will produce shots approximately five to ten yards longer than the standard long irons. The Halo offers an extra large sweet spot and a high moment of inertia for increased stability and forgiveness at impact making it easy to hit for golfers of all abilities. Due to unique sole design, and low and deep center of gravity, the HALO is extremely versatile for shots from the fairway, rough or tee.

HALO

Tour Edge Bazooka Houdini
Low profile design helps you astound the crowd with spectacular shots. The super-thin Hyper Steel face and walls allow the reposition of more weight to the sole. The extra sole weight creates an extremely low center of gravity and the super-wide radius design virtually eliminates turf drag. The result is solid contact and higher shots that escape from the most difficult lies.
