I am asked, more times than I can count “where does Rankmark get testers from?” What makes it possible for your company to find a great many impartial, average players who are willing to show up at a specific time and place to spend hours testing and accurately reporting which clubs are “best”? In the case of drivers that cost anywhere between $150 and $500, most testers would like to try and compare them prior to plunking down their hard earned cash.

Another factor is that certain design features that manufacturers say “add to the playability of a club” can be found so distracting that some players find they “would never buy a club so ugly.”

We at Rankmark were given the task of selecting 24 different drivers. All were thought by us or the manufacturers to be competitive and if put to the test could certainly end up “best”.

Each club was placed in a group of 6 so that they could be easily compared. Each was tested for feel, accuracy, and distance – awarding 5 points for first, 4 for second, 3 for third, 2 for forth, and one for fifth.

Since this Randmark scoring system seems to have a 5% margin of error and our usual cut line of 30 points or more (all the way down to 28) the leaders who would continue to the second stage of testing included;

Simpac S cube 34
Bobby Jones 32
Ping G 10 32
Vector Beta Ti 30
Nike SQ 30
Taylor Made Burner 30
King Cobra Speed LD 30
Callaway FTi 29
TourEdge Exotic 29

We took these nine and unbeknown to the testers were looking for the top five to award the Rankmark “Best of the Best” symbol for them to use in their marketing. The top nine were put through the same rigorous test with the following results:

score:
39 points

Workshop Edition Series
Bobby Jones by Jesse Ortiz

score:
34 points

TourEdge Exotics

score:
33 points

Simpac's S-Cube

score:
33 points

Taylor Made Burner

score:
30 points

Ping G10

As you can see by the results of our test, some of the smaller company’s drivers should have your consideration.

Until next time I remain,

The Bogey Man
